How To Market A Business Using Search Engines
In order to successfully market your online business with search engines you first have to understand how they work, search engines primary purpose is to provide useful information to users doing searches.
Search engines such as Google and Yahoo want to give a user the most relevant result when he/she types in the words refinancing an investment property. The Search engines want the 1st result on the 1st page to educate the searcher about refinancing an investment property.
You have to understand that the reason Google is so successful is because their customers (people doing searches) are very happy and continue to come back for more now that you understand this principle I am going to talk about how to market your online business using search engines.
The next question you should be asking is how do I get my website on the first page of Google?. your first step would be to gather your content; content is the relevant information users will be searching for in your market. they could be articles, reports, videos, audio files etc.
The idea is to deliver your content to Google so that they can in turn deliver it to your customers in the form of results from searches. You can either put all your content into a website you create or you can distribute it to other sites that Google already trust. This would be the much faster way This is known as article marketing.
Another way to use the search engines to market your business is by using pay per click. In this instance you are paying Google to have your ad show up on the right side of searches where users can click on them. You only pay when someone clicks on your ad, what you pay per click depends on how many other people are bidding on the same keyword that triggers your ad.
Tips – Hiring SEO Web Design Company
Today I got a call from one of my friends asking if I would be able to develop his new E-commerce site by the end of this year (it is October 28). My answer was no as I have to many projects lined-up and being serious about my web development business I have to be loyal to my customers. well, next question was would you be able to recommend somebody to it?. For sure there’s a lot of excellent industry people (Vancouver, BC, Canada), but honestly it is very hard to find the right contractor, especially if price is a factor and usually BIG Boys are very busy or simply crazy expensive. Being asked that question I just thought about writing short article about Finding right web development company, so here there is few tips I would check before building my new site, especially E-commerce as quality traffic is a must.
- Seo expertise – it is very crucial so chosen web development company has seo experience as you do not want to make mistakes and you want to make sure everything is done properly, non breaking any search engine guidelines yet having clean / crawlable design structure. most of companies these days advertise doing seo and web development, how do I check if they actually do have this knowledge? the simplest way is by checking their homepage meta tag and try finding those keywords using Google. if they do not come up among top results that means this is not the company you have been looking for.
- Content is the king – we all know that content is the thing that rules on the web today, having said that make sure your company will include content development in their proposal or will simply tutor you how you should write for the web yourself
- Previous customers – browse through company’s portfolio and actually check if their previous projects do rank in search engines, make a contact with them and ask if they are happy how their website works
- Avoid flash – this one is old but keep in mind that flash designed websites are simply not search engine friendly. Never create splash page having only animated graphics as this will prevent your website from proper indexing
I hope you’ll find this article handy when looking for your next web development project.
How to maximize an SEO budget
By Ash Buckles
Imagine the kind of impact your business could have if you had an unlimited budget for marketing. Unfortunately, most businesses are limited on what they can spend, particularly when it comes to online marketing and search engine optimization (SEO). but with a little creativity and smart planning, business owners can make the most of what resources they have while making a major impact on the Internet through SEO.
Have a Strategy
Without strong SEO, a website might not be found by potential clients. when people are seeking information, search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo are among the first places they visit. Statistics have shown that 85 percent of website visitors come through search, with most individuals not looking past the first page of results. Without strong SEO, a website might not appear in the first few listings with the business ultimately missing out on valuable clients.
Another place where you can lose visitors is by not having a strong website. Your website strategy should focus on attracting visitors through search and then keeping them on your site by providing the kind of information visitors were seeking.
When someone visits your website, what do you think will stand out to them? What parts do you think they might skip over or don’t provide as much value? Take time to analyze your website and the competition. come up with a strategy for what areas can improve to help attract and keep visitors.
Google’s Webmaster Tools can help with your strategy by providing insight into what pages have the most visitors, what search queries bring traffic to your site and where your users come from. the free software also helps identify issues with website malware, broken links and duplicate tags.
Create a timetable and set goals you would like to reach as a result of your SEO and other marketing efforts. Would you like to attract more patients or get more people signing up for a certain type of service? Would you like to reach a certain group of people? Document your goals and evaluate your progress, making adjustments as needed.
Pick Strong Keywords
One of the keys to drawing the right kind of visitors to your site is smart keyword usage throughout your content. think about what kinds of terms people might use when searching for your business and use those words throughout your writing. Use Google AdWords to help gain an idea of what kinds of searches people are doing.
Using long tail keywords in your content is one way to draw a more targeted audience. Long tail keywords are longer search terms using certain keywords that when combined are less common. for example, instead of focusing on the keyword “dentist,” you could concentrate on “cosmetic dentistry in San Diego” and get more targeted results with patients looking for a specific type of service.
Focus on Content
Strong content is the most valuable commodity your website has to offer. to save money some of this content could be created in house, while having an SEO agency focus on the technical side of things. Include articles, blogs and patient testimonials to help drive visitors to the website.
People want to find information as quickly as possible when visiting a website. Breaking apart the text and making it more scannable will also keep visitors on your site. Use bullet points, headers, bolded text, short paragraphs and articles.
The search engines are not just seeking written text; they are also looking for pictures, graphics, videos, audio files and more. the wider the variety of content you offer on your website, the better. not only will it appeal to your audience on different levels, but it will also help with search rankings.
Link Building
Link building is another area that could be contributed to in house to help build your website’s presence in the search engines. Email business contacts to arrange a cross-promotion or combined press release. be sure to include links so both you and they receive credit from the search engines and readers.
Another alternative is posting content on various sites to attract customers. One of the best ways to do this is to look for guest blogging opportunities. most sites that accept guest posts will let the author include at least one link back to their website in exchange for the content. And the bigger the website the better. Search engines give more prominence to links from popular websites, news media sites and blogs.
Social Media
Social media and SEO complement each other greatly. With social media being one of the most active parts of the online experience, it’s now making an impact on search rankings. People find new websites through search, but they also find them through social media.
Content creation and the links that come from social media sharing show the search engines that people are talking about and can help boost visibility. Likes, Tweets, Pins and Google +1s are all considered by the search engines.
Including “share this” options on your website that link to sites like Twitter, Facebook and Google+ is one way to encourage visitors to share content and make the material even more searchable. It can also help spur conversations with potential patients, expanding your network even further.
Be Patient
Getting to the top of the search results rarely happens overnight. the search engines are engineered to look for both stability and credibility when assigning a page ranking. It could take three to six months before search rankings and traffic increases.
Continuous effort with your website will pay off and have a powerful impact on search traffic and rankings. Don’t let a limited marketing budget keep you from achieving your SEO goals. Search rankings can be improved by being vigilant in your content, link building, keyword and social media strategies.

The Competitive World of Certified Business Enterprise
With the changes in the economy many small businesses looked for alternatives to keep their businesses going and migrated to the world of certified business enterprises. this however presents a new set of challenges and competition.
As a business owner you need to decide why you want to certify your business. are you looking at increasing your competitive edge with the government? do you want to be more competitive for your large private section clients? You’ve heard about certified businesses and you are curious?
Let’s take a look at these questions. but first, you must do your research and understand how your target clients make purchasing decisions and what programs they use.
Increasing competitive edge with government – with the downturn in the economy many businesses turned to the government as an opportunity to keep their businesses going. Today we know that even the government has reduced its spending budget. there are different certifications awarded or accepted by government agencies. the options are small business certified, women-owned certified, minority-owned certified or perhaps disable veteran-owned certified. Find out which one is the accepted certification by the government agency you are targeting.
Be more competitive for large private clients – find out which certificates your targeted clients accept and who issues them. you may have to incur in additional spending getting your business certified by a private entity. these private certifying groups do offer other benefits, such as training or conferences that are not offered by certifying government agencies. the certification process could set you back a few hundred dollars.
You are just curious – this is completely understandable and you should be. there are many certifications out there and deciding which one to choose requires time and effort. Visit the SBDC website sbdctampabay.com for information on upcoming trainings that can help you take the first step in certifying your business.
Just getting certified is not enough. you must make that certification work for you.
- Do not miss opportunities like conferences and matchmakers to meet the purchasing agents.
- Know who you want to talk to at these conferences and matchmakers and understand how they make their purchasing decisions.
- Once you’ve made contact, keep the line of communication open.
- It is important that you stay on top of your renewal as some certifications require annual renewals while others give you a two year period.
Being certified does not mean you will not face competition. It means that you are now competing with a smaller group of businesses. It means that you have a document that will set you apart when evaluations are done. It means that you have an additional tool in your marketing toolkit.
We welcome the opportunity to assist you with this and other business matters at the SBDC at USF.
Small Business – Building Relationships Online – Part 2
Learning to Build Relationships Online – Part 2
As an offline business owner with a web site, I know that you are spending a lot of time worrying about getting traffic to your web site. and you should be. But what are you doing with your site visitors. once they get to your site?
No matter what kind of web site you have – retail or otherwise – you should be focused on BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS with your web visitors
Relationship building related to your online presence can take place in a number of different ways – active, as well as passive, and they all work together.
The 2 main relationship building vehicles available to you online are your web site (and / or blog) and email – both business email and marketing email. Here in Part 2, we will discuss BUSINESS EMAIL issues.BUSINESS EMAIL messages are those which happen as a result of doing business. Depending on what your business may be, these are often inquiries. These emails can be the result of customer action, such as asking a question before making a purchase.
They may also include email sent messages during the purchase process – I made an online purchase last night and received 2-3 emails from the company as a direct result of that purchase.
This type of email is often reactive in that it is created as a reaction to the process of doing business.
For most Business, especially Online Retailers, BUSINESS EMAIL falls into two categories:
1) Email that is a communication between a Business and its Customer or potential Customer. (This is independent from email regarding a transaction.)Examples of this would be a Customer contacting a Business with a question, such as asking about business hours, requesting directions to the business offices/location, asking whether you carry a particular product (BTW, these inquiries are great for putting together a Business FAQ or providing topics for your email marketing campaigns)
2) Email that is exchanged between a Business and a Customer during the course of a transaction. The emails that are sent during the transaction, telling the customer details of the purchase would fall into this category.
There are generally several emails that are created automatically as part of the transaction process. In a retail sale, these emails would be sent by the Shopping Cart Software as part of its function. You, as the business owner, are usually able to edit and personalize the contents of these emails, but the system sends them automatically during the completion of the transaction process. it is hands off for you, once you have edited them for your purposes.
The third type of email for a Business, especially a Retail Business, is MARKETING EMAIL and will be covered in Part 3
BUSINESS EMAIL STRATEGIES:EMAIL ADDRESSES
- Avoid generic email addresses (such as info @whatever.com). consider using first names. if you are concerned about keeping the different email addresses straight, so that you can easily know which one is used for what, simply adjust the names.
EXAMPLE: the business owner is Jane.Use Jane @ YourSite.com for the main email address.Use JaneS @ YourSite.com for Sales questionsUse JaneI @ YourSite.com for Info questions
EMAIL SALUTATIONS
- Consider personalizing the email messages that are sent as part of a business transaction, so that the email greets the customer by name. NOTE: This can often be set up to happen automatically
EMAIL SIGNATURES
- Sign ALL business emails with a person’s name
- Tailor each Email Signature to that specific email message and its purpose
- NOTE: an email signature can be extremely valuable real estate
- Write your own versions of the thank you messages (and any other messages) sent during a transaction
FOR EXAMPLE: Issue an informal invitation for the recipient to stop by and visit in person, if they are ever in your city, as part of the transaction Thank You message
- Schedule an automatic follow up message to ask about the quality for the transaction and to ascertain that the recipient was satisfied.
EMAIL CONTENT
- Write in an informal and personable style
- Consider adding PSs to messages. As a general rule, a PS has a better chance of being read, even if the main body of the message is ignored. Go figure
BUSINESS EMAIL is one of your most powerful communications tools. Take the time and make the effort to maximize its effectiveness

How to Start an Advertising Agency
An Advertising business opportunity on the Internet is just exploding with possibilities. this is one of the most profitable endeavors available in the field of Internet advertising. if you have advertising experience and know even the basics of Internet, you have potential to start your own advertising business on the Internet.
There are many areas of the Internet that need to be learned before starting your advertising business opportunity. Multi level marketing, or MLM, is one way of generating advertising and sales at the same time. MLM is a system that allows someone to collect commissions on their own sales as well as on people they recruit under them. this used to be known as pyramid schemes.
MLM has become very popular with product sales, helping the organization build wealth by paying commissions on multiple levels. the concept from an advertising point of view is great, the more motivation you have to recruit people to sell your product, the more your product is out there on the market. some examples of companies that use MLM are nutritional product lines, make up product lines, and home decoration lines.
Multi level marketing has been around for years and not likely to go away anytime soon. Focus needs to be clear however on what the drive is for the company. if your focus is only on recruiting people to recruit more people, then your product sales are going to suffer. when your product sales suffer, your business as a whole suffers and then no one wants to be a part of the industry. keep your focus when dealing with MLM with your advertising business opportunity.
Ezines are another emerging way to get a product or service out to the public. Ezines, or electronic magazines, are usually specialized to a certain areas of interest. this is very much like conventional magazines. however, advertising in ezines is low-cost and even occasionally free. Another advertising business opportunity that is wide open.
Ezines in themselves will need advertising to get their word out. A perfectly written ezine does no one any good if no one knows that it is out there to be seen. Finding an audience for your ezine may be easier than you think. make sure when going into ezines that you know your material and that the writing is concise and accurate.
SEO, or search engine optimization, is a proven method of advertising on the Internet and a field, which is very much in demand at this time. SEO is a system of writing web content that uses specific key words and phrases that will pull the page up when that keyword or phrase is typed into any of the search engines. Knowing how to effectively use keywords to get a site recognized is critical for small businesses on the web.
When you open a search engine such as ‘Yahoo’ or ‘Google’, and type in the phrase Internet advertising, you will get a list of results. Those results are formulated by the words Internet and advertising. Sites that have those two words incorporated consistently throughout the site will come up on the list. these lists are in order by the most hit on sites at the top of this list. Of course, that is where you want your advertising business opportunity clients to be.
Educating your self on these concepts and a few more will allow you to start marketing your Internet advertising business. becoming an Internet business advertising consultant to companies who are looking to expand their presence on the web is a first step in building your reputation and presence in this field.
You must have a well-written profile centered on your Internet advertising experience and an up to date resume’. Businesses today are being inundated with new, and sometimes bogus, advertising opportunities and you need to stand out above all those other offers. keep your presence, online and in the field, professional at all times and make sure you can deliver what you promise. with those things in mind, you should be successful.
AB InBev Cuts McGarryBowen, Hands Bud Light to Translation
Anheuser-Busch InBev has cut McGarryBowen from its U.S. agency roster just eight months after naming the shop a lead agency for Bud Light, Ad Age has learned. Duties for the brand have been shifted to Translation Advertising without a review.
“To streamline our marketing efforts, we have decided to consolidate all Bud Light advertising responsibilities with Translation,” Paul Chibe, VP-marketing for the brewer’s U.S. division, said in a statement to Ad Age. “As a result, we have notified McGarryBowen we are ending our relationship. we thank McGarryBowen for their efforts on behalf of the Bud Light brand and wish them all the best.”
Dentsu-owned McGarryBowen won the Bud Light account in December along with Translation after a lengthy review that included at least a half dozen agencies. Originally, McGarryBowen was assigned lead creative duties on Bud Light, while Translation was tasked with line extensions such as Bud Light Lime, Bud Light Platinum, as well as NFL-related advertising for core Bud Light.
But in recent months, Translation gained favor, winning more creative work, including a promotional spot now airing promoting the Bud Light Port Paradise Music Festival, which includes a cruise. McGarryBowen, meanwhile, struggled to win approval for its creative proposals, failing to get any TV ads on the air beyond a Super Bowl spot that ran in February.
The loss is a big setback for McGarryBowen, which had been riding high last year with significant account wins including Burger King and United-Continental airlines. more recently the agency worked its way onto Procter & Gamble’s roster, winning strategic and creative work for the Aussie line of hair-care products. but in losing Bud Light, the shop let the biggest-spending beer account in the U.S. slip form its grasp. the brand spent $270 million in measured media in the U.S. in 2011, according to Kantar Media.
McGarryBowen could not be reached for comment by press time.
Like most big beer brands, Bud Light has struggled to grow volumes in recent years in the face of a weak economy and new competition from sprits and craft brews, especially among millennials. under Mr. Chibe, who joined the brewer about a year ago, AB InBev has moved away from slapstick humor in advertising in favor of creative executions that make greater use of music. that shift has seemingly given an advantage to Translation, whose investors include Jay-Z.
Of late, Bud Light has shown some signs of life, mostly fueled by more expensive line extensions such as higher-alcohol Bud Light Platinum and Bud Light Lime’s Lime-A-Rita, a margarita-flavored malt beverage in a can that was launched this summer and has exceeded expectations. On its second-quarter earnings call last week, the brewer said the Bud Light brand family gained more than 0.6 share points in the U.S. to reach 21.2% market share in the quarter.

Five Fun Marketing Ideas that Work
All business owners know that no matter how excellent a product or service is, if no one knows about it, profits are going to be low. Marketing is simply a business term for engaging the public. whatever the size of a company budget, here are a few ideas to draw in new customers and have fun doing it, brought to you by rapidparcel.com.
1. Interact with Customers Online
Blogging has become a business in itself. some bloggers make a full income from their blogs, but many more use their blogs to help market products and services. Online reading is becoming more popular. Businesses can take advantage of this to write engaging content about their products and interact with their customers. this is a great way to network with other businesses and get referrals as well.
It is very beneficial for a company to have its own website. this is a storefront that stays open 24 hours a day, after the employees have all gone home to bed. It should be a memorable place so customers will want to stop back often. having a drawing or contest can generate interest among potential customers, but it can also generate leads if the entrants leave their e-mail addresses and agree to further contact.
Social media is also a great place for a company to get recognition. Businesses can post interesting and fun things on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest so that customers will be more likely to find them. some companies have success by offering incentives to a person who “likes” their Facebook page. once a person has done this, business updates will be viewed as often as they are posted. this will keep that company in the memory of customers.
2. Play on popular Shows
While radio and television commercials are great advertising options, they can be pricey for low-budget businesses. A little ingenuity can allow a company to use the media without paying a fortune. At any given time, there are several television shows or movies that are extremely popular. Companies have had success with building a marketing theme around one of these and using it in their advertising banners, flyers and incentives.
3. Get Free Media Coverage
For media coverage, businesses can contact local television and radio stations with their ideas. If the advertising campaign promises to generate public interest or even raise controversy, the media may cover it as a news story.
A marketing strategy must be different than others for it to stand out. create a fun cartoon or mascot and make sure he appears in all advertising. this will make your company memorable, especially to customers with children. one business that sells video games has a mascot of one of its most popular video game characters stand on a corner, directing people to the store. another company sells pizza and has an employee stand in front of the shop, offering attention-gaining entertainment while advertising the daily specials.
Some of the most innovative marketing strategies have resulted in businesses selling what would have been unsaleable items. Farmers have been known to package smaller fruits and vegetables together for sale when they could not sell them singly. this gives the customer the impression that he is receiving something extra. A variety of smaller items that go together can also be sold as a package with a unique name.
5. Be Generous
Customers like to feel that they are getting the most for their money. A small Greek breakfast cafe welcomes new customers with a sample of baklava, its in-house specialty. Implementing a special birthday club where customers can get something free on their birthdays will encourage repeat business as well.
Everyone loves a party. when it is time to introduce a new product or service, a business can invite customers to an open house event with special activities, games and prizes planned. one key to drawing larger crowds is to make sure there is something for the children to do while parents are perusing the new products. Planning children’s activities makes the event more fun for everyone. this gives the company a family-friendly reputation as well.

Simple SEO Your first lesson starts here
SEO, Search Engine Optimisation is a ‘buzzword’ right now. you know you need to know what it is for your website copy or blogging, but you’ve no idea where to start. this blog is your first lesson in simple SEO. We hope it helps you understand the basics. so no more padding with aimless chat, let’s get down to it!
Firstly keywords or meta keywords, as they’re known, should be researched first. what is it? what is a keyword? well a keyword is an important and relevant word or phrase pertaining to your subject of note for that particular page; on a website or blog. it is the word or phrase that you hope people would type into the search engines to find your business. Hopefully with you at position one so that you are the first person to be clicked on. To obtain position one, would take time, effort and money to achieve it for keywords that are popular, or highly searched for. The keyword or phrase should be used in your copy regularly, but not overly, to make your copy readable to both your audience and the search engine. So balance your keywords and phrases within your copy or mr. Google wont like it and base it as ‘key phrase stuffing’ and this will negatively impact your page position. Keywords and phrases are obviously about the same thing but the phrases are longer. The shorter the length of phrase the harder it’ll be to rank for in the search engines, this is because there will be more people trying to rank for that phrase too. so ideally you need to look at mid to long length phrases as your ‘key’ phrases. what you must remember is that your site’s page rank builds over time, you will have to adjust your keywords and phrases based on your site’s performance. you can check your site’s performance if you sign up for Google Analytics.
This is something that may sound daunting and you may find yourself on a steep learning curve, but we are still learning and we’ve been optimising for quite a while now, it constantly needs tweaking and when Google changes it’s algorithms, meaning Google looks at your site in a different way for ranking purposes, you have to then go back, look at your analytics and change your keywords and phrases accordingly. Never finish the page, it constantly needs to be updated, fresh and regular content in Google is good.
What is a meta description? The meta description is the ‘chunk’ of text that appears underneath the search phrase and relevant web page that a person has entered into their web browser and will then appear in the search results. The meta description should be enticing and match a search for your key phrase so that people know immediately that yours is the right site to click through. The Meta description or key description should be no more than 140 characters long, should contain your key phrase and a brief overview of the page.
Alt tags? what are alt tags? Alt tags by definition means ‘alternative text’ added to your picture so that the search engines can build up knowledge about the picture as it cannot see pictures, therefore this text is invaluable. Along with the alt tag, each picture should also have a description about the product, which contains your all important key phrase as well and lastly you need to make sure that each image filename is named correctly, as per the product, not IMG006 or DCM1001.

DIY SEO Tips to Get High Google Rankings
SEO is quite a new industry. But although it hasn’t been around for too long, it’s one of the fastest developing niches online. The reasons for this are obvious. No matter how you look at it Google, Yahoo, Bing and a handful of other search engines are the major source of online traffic. and it looks like the situation won’t radically change soon. This ties your website’s rankings on these search engines directly to your bottomline. love it or hate it SEO is here to stay and you can’t succeed without it.
Now let’s look at the ways you can improve your search engine rankings, increase website traffic and ensure long-term growth of your business based on effective SEO strategy. Here’re some DIY SEO tips that will help you get your website to the top of Google.
1. Keyword research or Picking The Right Keywords
It’s not just about ranking high on Google that’s important, but ranking high for the right keywords. Sure, you can get a top placement for any weird term you like, but unless people really search for it, there’s no use ranking high for that keyword. so it’s obvious that you need to pick the keywords that feature high search stats.
Although the traffic behind the keyword is important it’s not the only factor that matters. The cornerstone of effective keyword research is the right focus. you need to target the search terms and phrases that are closely related to your business, your products and your customers’ needs. If you get to rank high for broad terms you’ll get more clicks, but on the other hand ranking for long tail will bring you more conversions and will ultimately provide a higher ROI.
SEO Tools you can Use:
There are quite a number of keyword research tools (both free and paid) that will help you develop your keyword list, estimate the potential traffic and set the priorities. some of the best are Google AdWords External Keyword tool, Google Search Based Keyword Tool, Wordtracker, Keyword Discovery, Word Stream and Rank Tracker.
2. Optimize your Content
Content optimization is not as powerful as it used to be, but it’s still an important part of effective SEO. The single most important element on your webpage is the title. Optimizing the title is a very tricky task. On the one hand you need to put your targeted keywords so that they stand as close to the beginning as possible, and make up the biggest part of the word count. On the other hand you need to make your titles sound natural and appealing to the users so that they will click through to your page when it comes up in the search results. come up with a catchy and well optimized title and you’ll improve both your rankings and click-through rates.
SEO Tools you can Use:
There are not too many tools for content optimization out there, I for one recommend WebSite Auditor.
Link building is the heart and blood of your SEO. The link building theory is simple: get quality and relevant links to your website with keyword-rich anchor texts. The practical part is much more complicated: you need to be constantly on the look for quality websites in your niche that you can get a link from. here are some of the most popular and effective link building techniques:
- Directory submission- Article submissions- Social media- Blog commenting- Forum Posting- Competition Research
SEO Tools you can Use:
Link building is perhaps the most consuming SEO tasks and you’ll certainly need SEO software to speed up the process and boot your productivity. The best link building and link analysis tools you can use are SEO SpyGlass, Backlinkwatch, Webconfs SEO tools and LinkAssistant.
These are some of the proven SEO techniques that alone can improve your search engine rankings, increase your website traffic and get you to the top 10, 5 and finally 1 on Google for your most important keywords and search strings.
Yelp SEO Campaign Highlights 8 Local SEO Best Practices
Are you missing an opportunity to fully understand and take advantage of the impact of local on search engine rankings? A new whitepaper from BrightEdge shares insights into how Yelp.com optimizes for local and highlights best practices for marketers.
Yelp is a local review site with more than 30 million user-generated reviews and active communities in 15 different countries. Their reviews range over a number of verticals, including restaurants, retail, hotels and travel, real estate, education, and more. in the second quarter of 2012, they averaged 78 million unique visitors per month.
BrightEdge recently looked into search results across the travel, retail, auto rentals and other verticals, across five major cities. at that time, they noticed a high variation in Google search results in different locations. Based on that result, they estimated that brands “could boost traffic and revenue by as much as 30% if they close the gaps in SEO performance by ranking at the same level as their top city on each keyword across all five cities.”
Yelp’s Local Challenges Universal for Marketers
Optimizing pages for different locations isn’t easy; the challenge begins when marketers try to get an accurate snapshot of their visibility across multiple locations. SEO technology may deliver keyword ranking data at the national level, or marketers may try to qualify search terms by using the name of specific cities in their queries.
These methods don’t tell the whole story, though. BrightEdge notes, “When we compared Google results page for the search term ‘burgers new york’ to the page people who are actually in new York see when searching with the term “burgers” we found stark differences in rank performance.”
Yelp’s challenges are unique given the sheer size of their website, the volume of reviews and other pages they have to optimize, and the fact that they rely on ranking locally by their very nature.
Local Search Tips
Based on Yelp’s SEO campaign, BrightEdge gleaned the following local search marketing best practices:
- Use software that allows you to monitor rankings across multiple locations and compare local and national results. you can try to work around this visibility problem on your own, but it’s time consuming, inaccurate, and not scalable.
- Identify gaps and prioritize opportunities to improve your SEO across locations. Focus on cities with lower performance and identify keyword opportunities to maximize your efforts.
- Identify and correct landing page misalignments. These are situations where the highest ranking page in one location is targeting another location, which can be frustrating to users who click through to information that doesn’t match their needs.
- Understand how origin locations (where in the world people are searching from) affect the SEO performance of your popular pages.
- Once you understand where your pages show up locally, drill down into off and on-page SEO factors in each location to optimize for that geo.
- Register local businesses with search engines; fill out the online form for that engine and complete the confirmation by mail.
- Use online local communities like Yelp and Google+ to claim your business listing. go deeper, into smaller local portals and community sites. Wherever possible, add photos, business hours, and other information to fill out the profile.
- Create local-specific landing pages to optimize for searchers in that location or searching with that location name in their query. BrightEdge recommends that “each page should be tailored with content that is specific to that location and that content should be compelling and refreshed regularly.”
Local and mobile advertising is projected to reach $24 billion in 2016. Clearly, the opportunity is huge for those who are able to overcome the challenges and discover areas of weakness to improve upon.
“Increasingly we are hearing that our customers need more robust and scalable local search insights,” said Jim Yu, CEO of BrightEdge. “we are thrilled to be able to work with Yelp, a leader in local services for both consumers and business, to share insights about best practices for local search.”

Cleaning Business Marketing Tool – Free Media Publicity
For a new house cleaning business owner, you are most likely very much appreciative of any cleaning business tips that may come your way. Well, putting up the business is basically standard. however, it is marketing your business to the general public that may need a bit of your creative ideas.
Advertising up and Downs
The thing about marketing is that it is basically advertising. And advertising may reap results for your cleaning business, but it may also burn a hole into your cleaning business’ marketing budget. there are many ways to advertise your business – through newspaper ads, magazines, billboards, radio, or even television. however, these range from expensive to quite expensive, up to really expensive. Although if it does have returns, then these ways may be worth the expense; but if it doesn’t, then it just sucked a huge amount of money from your company.
This is one way of advertising that won’t burn a hole in your house cleaning business’ budget’s pocket. This is what people usually know as press release. you don’t really sell or advertise the product or service. Instead, what happens is that the company’s name is mentioned in an article or any kind of press release, giving it exposure to the public’s awareness.
This is one of the cleaning business tips that you ought to know as a starting cleaning business owner. And another thing that you should know too: the downside of free media publicity is that although your company’s exposure is given a boost through here, you however, have no final say on what will be reported. but then, it’s free publicity of your business – a great cleaning business marketing tool
Basically, you, yourself, can submit a press release to your local paper. you write an article about an event that recently took place, or will take place, and if you are involved in the activity as an active member or a sponsor, you can include your company’s name. for example, an organization or social group is planning a tree planting activity and your company is a sponsor or participant, say you donated a tree or you sponsored financially – you can include that on the press release. however, the article should be about the event, and your company’s name is just a mere mention in that article.
You can also have your company’s name featured in home keeping magazine articles. you may contact the editor for the lifestyle or home section of the magazine and discuss it. so basically, free media publicity is free, or if it may cost you, it will be very minimal. It’s a good way to expose your company.
Self-publishing Gives Rise to Bogus Reviews
As more and more companies fight phony online reviews, check out how one entrepreneur turned book reviewing into a $28,000 a month gig–and then went out of business.
Positive customer review are so important for small businesses that an entire industry has formed around providing fake ones. and it turns out, self-publishers are no exception. According to the New York Times, the advent of electronic publishing has given rise to the auxiliary industry of for-pay book reviews.
The outlet profiled a rather glaring example: In fall 2010, Jason Rutherford launched GettingBookReviews.com, a site that offered rosy book reviews for self-published authors at a price. Rutherford reportedly provided clients with 20 positive online book reviews for $499, or 50 positive reviews for $999. At its high point, Rutherford’s company was making $28,000 per month, and his success illustrates the power of positive reviews and the ethically shaky lengths entrepreneurs will sometimes go to to obtain them.
“The wheels of online commerce run on positive reviews,” Bing Liu, a data-mining expert at the University of Illinios, Chicago told the Times.
Liu estimates that approximately one-third of “consumer” reviews are fake. However, the legitimacy of reviews is difficult to quanitfy, he said, because its nearly impossible to tell if a review was written by a marketer, a contributor for hire, or a third-party service.
Of course, Rutherford’s business violated the fundamental rule of editorial reviewing, that being that the reviewer is objective (i.e. not hired by the author) in critiquing a piece of work. Rutherford added, “These were marketing reviews, not editorial reviews.” GettingBookReviews also violated the Federal Trade Commission guideline that says paid online endorsements must be transparent, the Times noted.
GettingBooksReviewed shuttered in early 2011 after Amazon removed many of Rutherford’s book reviews, according to the Times.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that some review sites, including Yelp and Angie’s List, have begun fighting back against third-party reputation management services, which claim to remove negative reviews all together.

Elite One Cinema Launches In The Mid-Atlantic Region
CHESAPEAKE, Va., Aug. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ –Elite One Cinema recently celebrated its launch in the Virginia, DC, and Maryland markets. a collaboration between Blue Diamond Studio and Greg B Studios, Elite One Cinema offers a different kind of luxury videography service. There are a number of venues capable of producing a basic recording of a special day, but Elite One Cinema’s product offers something additional. they refer to their product as a Short Form Wedding Film, a 20-25 minute production that tells the story of the day rather than simply showing disconnected video.
In addition to wedding videography, Elite One Cinema offers a same-day edit. This speedy editing process allows Elite One to show a cleaned-up version of the actual ceremony at the reception before being released to the client afterward. having the fast edit allows everyone to relive the day as it’s happening while also receiving something more polished later if they desire.
although Elite One Cinema is new to the area, the two companies that collaborated to form it are not. Blue Diamond Studio has long been a presence, especially around Virginia Beach, a popular mid-Atlantic wedding destination. Greg B Studios is run by Greg Boyd, a well-known wedding videographer who has worked throughout the east coast. Both have many years of experience with photography and videography.
to help spread the word about the new service, Elite One Cinema has turned to Atlantic SEO, a division of Customer Magnetism. Specializing in local SEO marketing and small business internet marketing, Atlantic SEO helps businesses across the country.
About Elite One Cinema: Founded by two veteran videographers, Elite One Cinema ( eliteonecinema.com/ ) emphasizes capturing the spirit of an event, telling the story of an important day rather than simply showing a video.
